Backing up your inventory: Minvy Cloud and iCloud

Why cloud back-up matters for a home inventory, how Minvy protects your data, and how iCloud gives every iPhone user an extra layer of protection.

A home inventory is exactly the record you can't afford to lose. It earns its keep on the worst day — after a theft, fire, flood, or an insurance claim — and that may also be the day the phone you cataloged everything on is lost or damaged. Backing up means your inventory survives even when your device doesn't. Minvy gives you two independent ways to do that.

Minvy Cloud back-up (Premium)

With Premium (and during the Intro trial), your inventory is backed up to Minvy's secure cloud continuously, as you work:

How your data is protected

iCloud: extra protection for every iPhone user

Whatever plan you're on, your iPhone's own iCloud Backup can always protect your Minvy data too:

  1. Turn on iCloud Backup on your phone (Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup). Minvy's on-device data — items, photos, and documents — is then included in your regular phone backups automatically.
  2. Restore works the way you'd expect: set up a new or erased iPhone from your iCloud backup and your Minvy inventory comes back with it.

Not on Premium? Minvy also offers an in-app iCloud Backup (beta) — Settings > iCloud Backup in the app — which saves a backup of your inventory to your personal iCloud Drive and lets you restore it on demand. (Premium accounts don't need this; their data is already backed up continuously by Minvy Cloud.)

Belt and braces

The two layers are independent: Minvy Cloud protects you even if your Apple ID or iCloud storage has a problem, and iCloud protects you regardless of your Minvy plan. Premium users effectively get both — continuous cloud back-up from Minvy, plus their normal iPhone backup.
